spain_cordoba_battle-flowers2May Day — May 1 — is celebrated in many different ways.

Each year in Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain, they stage a “Battle of the Flowers” — May 1, 2015, of course.

The key element is a parade featuring flowers as the key elements: a procession of numerous carts and wagons winds through the historic center of the town. Women in traditional flamenco dress throw petals and flowers to the spectators.

The parade kicks off a month of flowery activities in Córdoba, including a Courtyards competition and a Window Grilles and Balconies contest.
