england_harrogate_autumnHeading across the pond next month, Road Trips Gardener? Consider scheduling a stop at the Autumn Flower Show at Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, sponsored by the North of England Horticultural Society and held at the Regional Agricultural Centre of the Great Yorkshire Showground. It’s set for September 12 through 14, 2014.

Learn all about apples at The Core, new at this year’s show. “Pip to Press – all things appilicious” will trace the culinary journey of the popular fruit. Attractions in The Core will include the chance to see a traditional apple press in action from the Yorkshire Dales craft cider mill, Thornborough Cider. You also can sample a variety of heritage apples to see how they match up to today’s supermarket offerings with volunteers from Helmsley Walled Garden, who will also be offering a daily tour of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s Millennium Orchard.

This year’s Show Gardens include a new feature: Inspiration Street, a series of small gardens set against the backdrop of a traditional street scene. Other highlights include cooking demonstrations, a vegetable competition and flower arrangements.
