We’re Number Three!
Powerscourt Gardens in County Wicklow, Ireland, has scooped up third place in National Geographic’s list of the World’s Top 10 Gardens.
Powerscourt was one of seven European gardens to make the list and was beaten only by the Château de Versailles (France) and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew (England).
The gardens and grand Palladian house at Powerscourt in the mountains south of Dublin, were designed in the 18th century. The house is set in 1,000 acres which include 47 acres of landscaped gardens. Inspired by the Italian Renaissance and the grand estates of France, the grounds feature Italian and Japanese gardens, waterfalls, tree-lined arbors, fine statuary, ornamental lakes and over 200 variations of trees and shrubs.
