california_carlsbad_ranunculusNo, Road Trips Gardeners, it’s not too late to see the Flower Fields, 5704 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, California (map).

The flowers started blooming about March 1, and the Carlsbad Ranch is open through May 12, 2013.

For the first time in more than 15 years, the color pattern of planting has changed. Designed by a professional colorist, the 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers cascade down the hillside in a spectacular display of colors.

Other highlights: an American Flag of Flowers, planted with red, white and blue petunias; the cymbidium orchid greenhouse; a maze of fragrant and colorful sweet pea blossoms, and a 1,500 square foot greenhouse filled with twenty varieties of Ecke poinsettias.
