Brown County Studio and Garden Tour

Since it’s an artists’ colony, this Indiana enclave combines studios with gardens for the annual Brown County Studio and Garden Tour, set for June 22 through 24, 2012, in and around Nashville, Indiana (map).

Over the last century, artists and craftsmen have gravitated to Brown County, hearing the call of the pioneers of the art colony. In this hilly, verdant, glacial valley, there are, by some counts, over 200 working artists among a population of only 15,000 residents.

The Brown County Studio and Garden Tour is a free, self-guided event designed to showcase the arts and crafts of this present-day “Art Colony of the Midwest.”

Twenty-three juried artists and artisans, who continue this cultural heritage begun by T.C. Steele and friends over 100 years ago, will take part in this year’s tour. Open studios offer a glimpse into the lives of working artists and craftsmen. Gardens will be in bloom and visitors can wander among the blossoms and be inspired by the natural beauty.

This is a unique opportunity to meet artists doing what they love and to purchase art from its source. Collectors will enjoy the new work available especially for this occasion.

Artists exhibiting for the 14th annual tour are Rosey Bolte, Monique Cagle, Bev Chafey, Bradley Cox, Dixie & Dick Ferrer, Amy Greely, Chris Gustin, Joe & Peggy Henderson, Anabel Hopkins, Amanda Mathis, Ron Newton, Elizabeth Parrock, Cheri & Dallas Platter, Judy & Tom Prichard, Doug Runyan, Connie Simmonds, Susan Threehawks and Larry Spears, plus the T.C. Steele State Historic Site, which serves as tour headquarters.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both June 22 and 23, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24.
