Road Trips Gardeners are already planning their driving itineraries for Historic Garden Week in Virginia, which runs from April 21 through 28, 2012.

Sponsored by the Garden Club of Virginia, it’s known as “America’s largest open house”. A guidebook provides in-depth descriptions of the more than 250 houses and gardens featured, as well as directions, ticket prices, and local tour contact information. It’s available online.

Tours are arranged by region, with each day highlighting a different area of the state.

The Clifton Inn, 1296 Clifton Inn Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia (map), has planned a garden-themed evening in honor of Historic Garden Week.

Southern Living contributor, James Farmer, will sign copies of his book, A Time to Plant: Southern-Style Garden Living [Gibbs Smith, August 2011] on April 22, 2012. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with book signing and cocktails, followed by a garden-inspired dinner created by Clifton’s executive chef Tucker Yoder using produce and ingredients from local Charlottesville farmers and purveyors.

Throughout Garden Week, the inn offers a special package for guests looking to make Clifton their home base as they enjoy the gardens of Central Virginia.
