Quilting and gardening just seem to go together, but never better than during the annual Quilt Gardens Tour in Elkhart County, Indiana.

This year, Road Trips Gardeners are seeing more than 100,000 blooms in 18 gigantic gardens in seven communities along the Heritage Trail in northern Indiana’s Amish country. The gardens, needless to say, are planted in quilt patterns — 36 in all, some of which are traditional, some new.

The gardens will be on view through October 1, 2011. You can download a map of the Amish Heritage Trail (where the quilt gardens are found). For more on visiting this region of northern Indiana, go online.
