The 2011 annual meeting and conference for the American Society of Botanical Artists will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, October 27 through 29, 2011, in the Boston Marriott Newton. It’s the first New England gathering for the group.

Included will be an evening in the Museum of Natural History at Harvard University to see the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants. This collection of over 3,000 models was created by glass artisans Leopold Blaschka and his son, Rudolph. The commission began in 1886, continued for five decades, and the collection represents more than 830 plant species. The Blaschkas’ studio was located in Hosterwitz, near Dresden, Germany.

There are two pre-conference options: a “Flavor of Boston” tour and a class with Jean Emmons. After the conference, there are workshops with Elaine Searle and Carol Woodin. In between is a packed schedule of talks, workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions.

Registration information is available online.
