At the end of the 19th century, Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild built Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, England, in the style of a 16th century French chateau. The grand halls were designed to showcase his collection of art treasures, and he transformed the surrounding farmland into formal gardens with fountains, sculptures and an aviary.

Today the manor and gardens are open to the public, and the tradition of fine art exhibitions and seasonal garden displays continue. Tulips have always been an important part of the manor’s spring display and during the annual Tulip Festival, to be held April 16 through May 2, 2011, the restored parterre garden will be ablaze with thousands of colorful blooms.
