Who knew there was an herb of the year, Road Trips Gardeners, but there is. And, for 2011, it’s the Armoracia rusticana, better known as horseradish (yes, that’s it in the photo).

It’s the honored plant at the 13th annual Pennsylvania Herb & Garden Festival, set for April 8 and 9, 2011, in the York Expo Center/Memorial Hall, 334 Carlisle Avenue, York, Pa. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. April 8, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9.

Speakers include Sylvia Braderman, Past President of The Garden Club of Harrisburg; Mim Enck, tea buyer and blender for The East Indies Tea Company; Gail Leasure, beekeeper; Susanna Reppert-Brill of The Rosemary House; Barb Steele of Alloway Creek Gardens & Herb Farm, and Pat Sweetman, a long time member of the Herb Society of America.
