florida_orlando_leuHeading south, Road Trips Gardeners? You can see the largest camellia collection (outside California!) at the Harry P. Leu Gardens, 1920 North Forest Avenue, Orlando, Florida. Rambling along three miles of paved scenic walkways take you through fifty acres of southern styled gardens. There are the camellias, of course, but also three acres of “idea gardens” ideal for weekend projects, the largest formal rose garden in Florida, a two-acre Tropical Stream Garden, Vegetable and Herb Garden and a Butterfly Garden. In short, appropriate plants for USDA Zone 9b. Depending on the season, visitors can stroll among palms, cycads, flowering trees, azaleas, vines, bromeliads, amphor trees, elms and oaks. At the heart of Leu Gardens is Harry Leu’s home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (Mizell-Leu Historic District).
